11th Annual Foster Care 5K Run/Walk

Goodwill Homes is excited to share with you our plans for the Agency’s 11th Annual Foster Care 5k Run/Walk! This year’s focus will be our Foster Care/Adoption Services.
Goodwill Homes was founded in 1957, as the first residential facility for abused and neglected African American children in the state of Tennessee. Since its inception, Goodwill Homes has continued to provide services to children who need a temporary placement until they can be reunited with their family or adopted.
Your generous contribution will help enhance our Foster Care program. While the agency receives funds to provide for the basic needs of our children, there are other activities and necessities that are essential to ensure that the children are well rounded and have every opportunity to have an active part in the community. These funds will assist with graduation expenses, scholarships, costly extra-curricular activities/ uniforms, school trips, equipment, etc. These funds will also be used to raise awareness about Foster Care, the need for more foster families and resource opportunities for foster children.
Help us preserve Goodwill Homes’ history of caring for children by supporting our 11th Annual 5k Run/Walk. Join us Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 9:00a.m. in Overton Park. Not only will funds raised for this event benefit our Foster Care program, but will also honor the memory of our former CEO, Barbara J. Motley.
Ms.Motley served as the CEO of Goodwill Homes for twenty years. Under her leadership, the agency flourished and continued to expand its programs to meet the community’s needs. She adhered to the agency’s philosophy, “Awareness of needs and answering them is the philosophy of program development at Goodwill Homes; helping families move towards self sufficiency with dignity and pride”. Ms. Motley perished in a tragic fire in March 2008.
We are asking each participating employer, church group and/or other organizations to recruit 10 walkers to raise $100.00 per group. There will be prizes for individual walkers raising the most money and recognition of all employers and organizations sending 10 or more walkers to the event.
We are excited about the activities that we have planned to help us preserve the history, the legacy, and the needed services that only Goodwill Homes Community Services can provide. Won’t you please join us in making this “Super Saturday” a successful venture for this much deserving agency.
