Barbara J. Motley

Barbara J. Motley served as the CEO of Goodwill Homes for twenty years. Under her leadership the agency flourished and continued to expand its programs to meet the community’s needs. She adhered to the agency’s philosophy, “Awareness of needs and answering them is the philosophy of program development at Goodwill Homes; helping families move towards self sufficiency with dignity and pride”. She realized that since the agency’s total function is to solve today’s problems today, she must operate the agency on the theory that yesterday’s programs at Goodwill Homes are not necessarily today’s... and today’s programs are not necessarily tomorrow’s.

In 1992, Ms. Motley was named “Outstanding Fund Raising Executive” by the National society of Fund Raising Executives, and Goodwill Homes was chosen “Agency of the Year” by the Volunteer Center of Memphis and received the Bravo Zula Award from Federal Express. She received the State of Tennessee Legislative Distinguished Service Award in 1993.  In addition, Ms. Motley was the recipient of the Ruby R. Wharton Community Service Award for significant contributions to the Shelby County community in 2005.

Ms. Motley perished in a tragic fire in March 2008. In an effort to raise funds to benefit Goodwill Homes' Foster Care/Adoption program and to honor Ms. Motley’s contributions to the agency and community, Goodwill Homes Community Services, Inc. has planned it's 11th Annual Foster Care 5K Run/Walk Saturday, October 19, 2019, @ 9:00a.m. in Overton Park, Memphis, TN.

We’re excited about the fundraising activities that we’ve planned to help us preserve the history, the legacy and the needed services that only Goodwill Homes Community Services, Inc. can provide. Please donate today and make a difference!
